Welcome Wagon
And just when I thought M. might have lost his sense of humor, the following happened during one of our recent conversations! So, while on the phone with M. one night a couple of weeks back, he told me that he was awaiting the arrival of one of the soldiers who was returning to Bagdhad after two weeks away on R&R. The soldier from M.'s unit did in fact arrive as we were talking on the phone, and M. said, "Can you hang on for a second?" Of course, I said yes, and then and I heard him greet SFC L. with this: "Hey SFC L.! Good to see you...and WEEEELLLLCOME TO IRAAAAAAQ!" A lot of things might have been dampened by the heat, but apparently one of them isn't M.'s sense of humor! (Uh, and hopefully SFC L.'s got a little bit of his left, too!) Anyway, they're hanging in there, but the more days that pass, the more anxious he and the rest of his unit are to come home...and to get a break from the weather, too. The good news is that the preparations for their return have begun, and we are eagerly counting down the days!
