Cross into the Blue...
Isn't that what the Air Force commercials say? Yeah, well, they made M. cross over into the blue last weekend...a blue mood, that is! M. flew to Kuwait on Saturday afternoon to begin preparations for the unit's eventual return. Somewhere along the way, the Air Force baggage handlers lost M.'s luggage on Saturday evening. It's now Monday night, and his duffel bag (containing his extra clothing, toothbrush and clean underwear) is still somewhere in Kuwait! So, traveling downrange really IS like being at home sometimes, lost luggage and all! Anyway, he's traveling with SGT C....whose bag was ALSO lost along the way so they had to stay awake looking for the luggage for most of Saturday evening into the wee hours of Sunday. Fortunately, their bags have been now been located. In a completely different part of the country. But at least they've found them: I think M. was really beginning to wonder! So, as M. waits for them to arrive, he purchased a souvenir t-shirt of Kuwait to wear (probably the dead giveaway that he's sans duffel!) and a new toothbrush to get him by. He was able to call me briefly this evening and apparently, he's run into a couple of our OBC classmates while traveling...actually, one of the guys he recognized was the same LT he traveled with briefly on his way home for R&R in February! We've found that Iraq, and the Army in general, tends to become a pretty small world very, very quickly! Anyway, he's doing alright, but because of the duffel bag debacle, he'll be extending his stay in Kuwait for an extra day or so, but he should be returning to his home base later on this week. 'Til then, wish them Godspeed and good luck as they prep things in Kuwait this week... We're eagerly counting the days until he's back home, and it won't be long now!
