Doh!
So, here's Doh Moment #1 of the redeployment process. Okay, so M. is still pretty much locked down, but he was able to steal away and make a 10 minute phone call to me this evening. To my great shock, he was still calling from...Iraq. The details of what went wrong are a little sketchy, but apparently the Air Force mistakenly scheduled their flight out for many, many days ago-before they had even transferred authority to the incoming unit. Hmm. It sounds like they were pretty flabergasted by that whole explanation. Fortunately, M. assures me that this bump in the road isn't ultimately expected to delay their return to Germany: apparently they'll amend the schedule by spending less time in Kuwait than they had anticipated. This evening, he sounded fairly upbeat, but I'm sure there's been some disappointment: getting to Kuwait was one of the redeployment milestones that M. was looking forward to with the most anticipation. At any rate, we're hoping that it won't be long now, and I'm waiting anxiously for the next phone call. I'm working 6 days a week for now because we're getting soldiers back right and left up here. It's hard, sometimes. I'm so glad they're back. I just wish M. was among them...
